Cheating is a dirty business

First, the good news:  I'm down another pound and sitting at 311 currently!  That's 31 lbs down overall (since March 12).  The best part about this is knowing that, even though I have 3 CCs in my band, I don't feel any restriction yet, so the loss is all due to my hard work.  I've been SUPER careful about what I eat, and diligent about getting at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 days/week.  I've been drinking close to 80 ounces of water a day, and making sure I get 70-ish grams of protein.  I've been working hard, and seeing that reflected on the scale is pretty damn rewarding.  YAY!!!

Now for the bad news.  In a moment of Sunday laziness yesterday, I decided I didn't feel like cooking.  So instead we did the worst thing we could have done: ordered Pizza Hut.  It sounded like a good idea at the time.  I mean, I guess I knew it wasn't actually a good idea, but I was all "I've been so good!  I can't deprive myself of things I love completely, because then I'll go nuts.  At least it's just one meal, then the pizza will be gone and out of my life."  Well I wasn't thinking about the fact that it's been a while since I've eaten anything greasy/fatty/etc. and how that might affect me.  It made me feel like I had just poured toxic sludge into my body.  I felt bloated, lethargic, a little queasy and way too full.  And I still kinda feel that way!  I'm cranky and uncomfortable and I feel disappointed in myself for mistreating my body/mind this way.

So I learned something important: if I decide to cheat and have a splurge meal, I'm going to make sure it's QUALITY STUFF, not crap from Pizza Hut.  Oh well...it's a new week and I'm back in the saddle!  I'm working on our weekly meal plan so I can go shopping tonight, and I vow to make good choices that won't make me feel terrible.

P.S. I just found out Pizza Hut made a perfume.  Seriously.  WTF???  The name...Eau de Pizza Hut, of course.  This is disturbing.

  1. I love me some pizza. I found that Papa Murphy's has the worlds greatest pizza and has awesome ingredients like spinach, feta cheese, thin crust and different sauces...Not a bad choice for pizza splurges!

  2. What she said! I totally still eat pizza- but a lot less of it than before, and dutifully recorded in MyFitnessPal, preferrably still within my day's calories. And we usually get Papa Murphy's. Their thin crust doesn't get stuck and has less calories than the delivery places.

  4. Well, as the ELB likes to tell me--smells are free---they don't cost anything and there are no calories. But I understand about the pizza--i almost ordered pizza this weekend, too--but instead made a pot of mock chick fil a tortilla soup (not quite spicy enough), and a turkey/refritos mix that i ate alot of...and i didn't even realize it was cinco de mayo--i just realize that i eat ALOT of mexican food since getting my band.

now, if there is only a eau de chick fil a the ELB wouldn't be able to keep his hands off of me! :)

    1. That tortilla soup sounds really good! I have a chicken & lime soup that I haven't made in a while, and I usually add some chopped up strips of corn tortilla & diced avocado on the top. You're right, I totally eat more Mexican food since getting my band. There are just so many options! And with seasonings like chili powder, cumin & cayenne pepper, you feel like you're eating something way more indulgent :)

  5. I'm drooling reading your soup descriptions, lol. I think it's time for me to eat. :-D

I'm sorry you felt like crap after, but it sounds like you totally are using it as the perfect "propel you forward" experience. The times I was successful with WW I did the same. I'd occasionally feel like eating some totally "off limits" crap, and then FEEL like crap after. So I'd be sure to really notice how I felt - which would help when I was looking at the menu next time. I'd realize I honestly wasn't depriving myself not to have the greasiest calorie bomb, I'd PREFER something delicious and kind of a "cheat" but somewhere in between.

We went out to a restaurant the other night, and I got an appetizer portion of a corn chowder with scallops and bacon, and a glass of wine. I was cheating having the wine, drinking with my food, and probably "chewing" the scallop and bacon. But the food was 311 calories and good protein, and it was SO GOOD and I wasn't over stuffed. I have a similar strategy in mind for Mother's Day when we are going to my favorite restaurant that we haven't gone to since Easter - before I was banded. We'll see how it goes. ;-) I see a mojito in my future, I'll tell you that right now. And maybe a steak. But I will be glad to make 2-3 meals of it. :-D I may get an appetizer instead. Did I mention I'm REALLY HUNGRY right now?? LOL

Oh...and Pizza Hut perfume???????? Sheesh....just get a job there. I worked at McDonald's a while, I smelled like grease all summer. Gag.

  6. I miss pizza. I can't eat it. Although the night I went to see Shiny Toy Guns, and my band was completely unfilled due to that hospital visit, my favorite band offered me a piece of pizza....and I ate it. Because who turns down pizza from a member of their favorite band? NOBODY...that's who. And it was worth every bite/calorie. Thank god I was unfilled that day!

  7. Sorry to hear about your bad pizza experience. But that's how we learn, right. I haven't had Pizza Hut since my band, but I can tolerate Papa Murphy's thin crust and a few other local joints with thin crust options. I always use a napkin to blot the excess oil. Oh, and I only eat one slice now, instead of five!! ;-)
