My new favorite room

Today, for no reason in particular except I'm excited about it, I'm giving you a tour of my new craft room.  I've NEVER had a space to set everything up before, which means I've always had to drag everything to the kitchen or coffee table and have it scattered around everywhere and then drag it back to the closet when I'm done.  Which basically means that I didn't spend a whole lot of time messing with it because it wasn't worth the effort.  Last week I said "enough" and bought a desk off craigslist and spent 2 days getting everything organized the way I like it.  Here's how it looks now that it's all set up (even though I know it will continue to evolve):

On the left side of the desk I have card stock and patterned papers.  Designated drawers for full sheets and scraps (on the wall behind it is my Sunday painting project--I wound up liking it a lot!)

Over on the right I have my Cricut (die cutting machine) and paper trimmer (and a framed pic of Charles and me).  Never mind the hammer, nails & cuticle oil on the corner...those haven't made it back to their homes yet

In the right-hand cabinet I have some magazines, a box full of paint/paintbrushes, and a clear bin with a bunch of odds and ends...stickers, rhinestones, yarn, twine, chipboard, etc.

On the pull-out shelf above it, I have this 3-drawer organizer

Top drawer: ribbon

Middle drawer: mini paper pads

Bottom drawer: stamps

Under the desk on the right, there's an extra little shelf, where I keep pre-folded blank cards and all of my ink pads

On the left side of the desk are 3 drawers...top drawer are the Cricut cutting mats and tools, scissors, glues, spool of thread and needles

Middle drawer: Cricut cartridges and software, canvases

Bottom drawer: More odds and ends...fabric & paper flowers, brads, eyelets, decorative punches, buttons and more scissors

It seems like a lot now that I've gone through it all, but my collection is actually pretty small, comparatively.

So there ya go...not that anyone asked, which they definitely didn't, but that's my craft room.  Does anyone else have an area in their house where they can write, paint, sew, scrapbook, or whatever your poison is?  If so, I'd love to see your space!!

Ta-ta,
Mon

  1. That looks good. Wish I could do that, but even if I had the room I am to disorganized to keep it that way haha

    1. We'll see if it stays this way...I'm still loving it too much to mess it up :)

  2. Looks great! I just recently bought a rolling plastic drawer-set-thingy for all my crocheting supplies that had been stashed in random plastic bags around my bedroom. The giant drawer-set-thingy isn't big enough, and even after jamming all my yarn in every nook and cranny, I still have unfinished projects, yarn stashes, and crochet books stacked on top. D'oh!

    1. Well I'm sure it's still better than it was before :) But yeah, I know the feeling of completely underestimating the amount of space something's gonna take up!

  3. LOVE this! I'm so glad you did this for yourself - and I loved seeing the painting you did! I hope you keep showing us more. :-)

I need kids to go away to college before I'll have an extra room to work with. ;-) (That will actually be very soon, YIKES!)

    1. I bought a bunch of canvases on sale at Michael's a couple weeks ago, so I'm sure I'll display some more :)

What kind of stuff do you like to work on?

  4. I actually do have my own home office that I could use for crafting. Except I'm not crafty! But God do I love organization. Your space looks great!

    1. Yeah, I think I could spend hours at The Container Store just walking around, lovingly touching the bins and shelves :)

  5. We have a loft that I used to think I would use for a sewing room--my machine actually stays set up there all the time. But it is kind of a pain to get in and out of, and has a very low ceiling, so I hardly ever actually use it. Your space looks so organized! Time to get crafting!

    1. Sewing is my next big endeavor--I really want to learn, and my mom said she'd give me her ancient Singer :) I have so many sewing projects I'd love to tackle!

  7. I am SUPER jealous, also. I make beaded jewelry but i have nowhere to set things up--so i usually do it on the couch with a little lap desk tray that I got at 5Below, and i end up spilling beads everywhere. and i have ALOT of beading stuff. The ELB and i will one day have a house with an office area where he can set up his work stuff and i can set up my bead stuff--and we will be happy. but right now, the bunny occupies the second bedroom so that's her domain.

you did an AWESOME job. I love Craigslist.

    1. Oooh! I have a ton of jewelry-making supplies too that are still in boxes. I need to get that stuff out and work on it! I made my mom a wire-wrapped bird's nest necklace for her birthday that actually came out great. She's gotten amazing at working with wire over the last few years

  8. Can you come to my house? I do have a room just for doing crafts, but 4 years after moving to this house, I still have yet to set it up. The majority of my supplies are still in the moving boxes!

    1. Yeah, we were living here for a year before I finally got around to getting my room set up. I just got so frustrated not having a creative outlet, and I was starting to get cranky :) It sucks having to go through boxes to figure out where your stuff is!!
